People Get Ready
Not exactly what you expected for an Advent song at the Haven?
Alot of things happen that people don’t expect. Take those foolish virgins, for example. No oil. No oil. No place to get oil. Can we borrow some of yours?
Jesus is coming. Don’t miss that train.
People get ready
There’s a train a-coming
You don’t need no baggage
You just get on board
All you need is faith
To hear the diesels humming
Don’t need no ticket
You just thank the Lord
People get ready
For the train to Jordan
Picking up passengers
From coast to coast
Faith is the key
Open the doors and board them
There’s room for all
among the loved the most
There ain’t no room
for the hopeless sinner
Who would hurt all mankind just
To save his own
Have pity on those
whose chances are thinner
Cause there’s no hiding place
From the Kingdom’s Throne
So people get ready
for the train a-comin’
You don’t need no baggage
you just get on board!
All you need is faith
to hear the diesels humming
Don’t need no ticket
you just thank, you just thank the Lord.
But despite the lyrics to the contrary, there is room for everybody. “Hopeless” is not in Jesus’ vocabulary; certainly it is not in the Holy Spirit’s. “Divine Mercy” is. Tell everyone the truth of this. Be sorry for your sins, and tell Him so. Ask Him to help you love Him. Then climb on board.
Absolutely the best for reflection!!!!! “Hoping” I’m ready when the train comes!
December 1st, 2009 at 6:35 amThis also reminded me of a priest I had for two of my four years of high school religion classes. We had “funzy Friday” every week where the students would bring in record albums (yea – no cassettes or CDs – but vinyl!) and Fr. Mulligan would write some of the lyrics on the board while the music was playing. When the music stopped we would discuss the messages in the lyrics. It was fun watching him try to get spiritual messages from some of those hard rock bands of the 70’s.

This one scares me.
December 1st, 2009 at 9:15 pmI have oil set aside, because
“Foolish virgin” is an oxymoron.
Am I too old for a Rod hairdo?
Yep, you surprised me..
I’m sleeping with the lights on tonight.
Ken, Fr. Mulligan sounds like he was quite inspiring (and hopeful).
Carol, didn’t mean to scare you! I had this song on my mind for days. I’ll try to get back to normal mode (ha, ha, ha, normal – Gabrielle???), so you can turn the lights off. (p.s., no one is ever too old for a Rod hairdo, imho.)
