Does This Count As A Credit?

Then Jesus took his disciples up the mountain, and gathering them about him, he taught them, saying:

Blessed are the poor…
Blessed are the hungry…
Blessed are those who mourn…
Blessed are the oppressed…

Then Simon Peter said, “Do we have to write this down?”
And Andrew said, “Are we supposed to know this?”
And James said, “I don’t have papyrus with me.”
And Philip said, “Will we have a test on this?”
And Bartholomew said, “Do we have to turn this in?”
And John said, “The other disciples didn’t have to learn this.”
And Matthew said, “Can I be excused?”
And Judas said, “What does this have to do with the real world?”

Then one of the Pharisees who was present asked to see Jesus’ lesson plan and inquired: “Is this lesson aligned with current standards? Does it address multiple intelligences? Where are your objectives in the cognitive domain?”

And Jesus wept.

[A teacher friend sent me this a few years ago. :) I just found it in a pile of papers - yes, I'm in clean-up-the-desk mode.]

Funny, yet too true, as is the reason He asked in exasperation, “How long will I be with you, how long will I bear you??” It wasn’t simply because none of them had brought deodorant with them, but rather, not even His closest followers to whom He’d handed over the whole ball of wax were getting His message/mission.

I was thinking of that passage too when I was reading the joke. But everything changed after Pentecost…

Today I’m thinking of three years’ worth of teens who were confirmed, and of their hidden excitement–what would be their special gift, et al. In case anyone doesn’t know or has forgotten, teens are incredibly beautiful on the inside, and they so truly seek this God of Whom they’ve been taught. They’re so humble, they hardly dare anticipate Him being personal. God bless JP II and Papa Benedict for telling the young that they are Personally cherished/invited/utterly welcomed by the Lord indeed.
