Of Fields and Souls

Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing
there is a field.
I will meet you there.
When the soul lies down in that grass
The world is too full to talk about.
Ideas.
Language.
Even the phrase “each other”
Does not make any sense.

(Rumi, 1207-1273)

One, like a garment woven in one piece. One, as He prayed for in the upper room.

I love the picture, and the poem reminds me of my son Lorenzo, the contemplative. He told me yesterday he just loves the sound of soft rain. I told him about how he used to lie down on the grass to soak in the sun’s rays, and about the time he said “mom, this is the most beautiful day of my life”. “It is? Why?” I replied. “Because the sun is shining.”

Love this, Gabrielle. Brings to mind a one liner on my blog:
There are times in life when the mind stands still.

Hi everybody; glad to see we have a few Rumi lovers…

Don’t forget to check out Judith’s meme on her site; she is a kindred spirit, and funny as @%$!. I’ll try to post mine tomorrow, if I can.

I have been a fan of Rumi for a long, long time now (came to him via Robert Bly, another poet whom I admire)…..and have only “touched” on the huge scope of his writings…. & the depth of his insight…. This one particular poem has always been one of my favorites.

Speaking of Rumi, have you ever come across a 2-CD set entitled “A Gift of Love”, which contains music inspired by the love poems of Rumi, along with the reading of many of his poems? I must have listened to it at least 25 times over the 8 or so yrs since I have owned it. If you are interested, Gabrielle, I’d be happy to copy it for you….

Rec’d your email several days ago, and have yet to reply….my sincere apologies. Summer has been a VERY busy time, both at work and home. We have been fishing (ocean) almost every weekend. Will try to respond this week. It was so thoughtful of you to write….and to keep me (& my loved ones) in your thoughts & prayers.

Grace & Peace to you this day…

Thanks, Kristin, I might just take you up on that! Fishing almost every weekend - ah, summer. Bliss.

It’s a lot of fun……and sweet, fresh salt air. Not too many fish yet…but we are still learning! :)

The “downside” is that my house had 6 weeks’ worth of DUST built up on every available surface….which I tackled this past weekend with a vengeance. :)

If you want to send your mailing address, to my email, I’ll be pleased to copy these (2) CD’s for you. Just let me know.

God bless you, Gabrielle. Your prayers matter. :)
