Contemplative Haven

18 May

For the times, they aren’t a’changing

There are days when even the Haven isn’t a safe place to be.  Today is one of those days.

It seems as if one child barely gets home, when another has to leave.

Courage, my friend.  Courage.

Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door (Bob Dylan, performing in 1976)

Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door (Avril Lavigne, performing in 2003)

No, the times, they aren’t a’changing.  But they will:

“For the Lamb who stands in front of the throne will be their Shepherd.  He will lead them to the springs of life-giving water.  And God will wipe away all their tears.” [Revelation 7:17]

“He will remove all of their sorrows, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain.  For the old world and its evils are gone forever.” [Revelation 21:4]

    Amen. Marana-tha.

Your little fellow countrywoman is my daughter’s favorite.

I have to admit I was never a fan of Dylan, or many another serious soul/poet-singer back then. Social justice in song? Way beyond my ken, then. Only now am I seeing what they tried to do, in the only solidarity they had then. And I’m thankful.

History is repeating itself, yes. We’re creating orphans and cripples..and widowers.. But one day, not so. Amen. Amen. So may it be.

    Marana-tha.

Somewhere in the middle of Contemplative Haven there burns a flame of hope. Unextinguishable and bright. Thanks, Gabrielle.

Much prefer the original singer song writer’s version though our former Pentecostal singing wonder did a fine enough job of it. This song will always be timely, which is sad, for that is the state of man, to war and to be at war within himself; this until, as you say, our Lord returns.

We’ve seen love win, tho’, Owen. We all have. We’ve seen it transform..

In Him, we can change the face of the world, but we have to do it as Mother Teresa did.. one soul at a time.

Deadly, frustrating, but progress. Just like losing 50 million babies compared to that 1 milion(?) saved. Slow, creeping, crawling love to catch up with Love. Contrition, penance, reparation, fasting, almsgiving, adoration, Mass, prayer and dialog..

And electing people who believe in Him with their hearts, not their lying lips.

I think, “to be at war within himself”, as Owen mentions, is the key. And as Ghandhi said, “we must become”. We must become peace individually, then collectively. One transformation at a time, but imagine the power if we all “became” at the same time?

fmn, I’ve been in Trois Rivières, Québec, and was able to visit the shrine at Cap de la Madeleine, and also, on the way back, the Trappist monastery at Oka. I’ll try to get some pictures up and a little post, maybe next week.

No, especially not the monastery. We arrived during None. I thought I would die of joy. But we stayed only a short while, because hubby was whining, and not your kind of whining.    :)
