    Beautiful, and beautiful.

What a strange accent Fahtha has. :-)

I thought it might sound familiar to a few of you!

His point about the impact of today’s fast, ever-moving media upon especially the young when contrasted with the benefits of merciful Adoration was also food for thought. I live in a small-ish town, but it’s very old, very Catholic. When we first came, we tried out all 3 parishes a few times, and were most surprised to find the French one’s Mass was kept down to a rocketing 40 minutes– we knew that because of the clock built into the choir loft. So, it seems even the most generations-old working class parish was in a hurry, unless it was because French language moves so rapidly?

Still, I’ve always been surprised/dismayed that there wasn’t more of an Adoration schedule here, especially since one of these churches is designated a pilgrimage site for the sake of indulgences, but basically, each parish has one afternoon of Adoration per month. I was never more surprised or dismayed (a fruit of seeing the Eucharist as symbol, not Real Presence?) than when showing up with a few others for a designated, advertised monthly Adoration for pro-life, only to find it had been forgotten by that parish’s clergy. Now, that is when we know we are too busy!

Especially since grandson came on the scene, I miss Adoration more often than not, I must confess, but if there were perpetual Adoration, I and probably very many others would love to be part of His overnight company. Anyway, thank you, Gabrielle. It’s nice for us to be called aside to Him even here.

It seems to me that little by little the parishes in my area are coming to realize again the importance of having an Adoration schedule in place. I too, one Friday evening, showed up at the appointed time, to find the church in complete darkness and doors locked. Sigh. I apologized to Him through the wall, then walked home. Sigh.

    Hi GAb and Carol.
WHat a pleasant surprise to find this thread starting on the Haven. An oasis.
I was struck be the final part of Father’s talk..it has me thinking today..”What is real holiness as far as my life in relation to God and neighbor?!”
I also feel right at home listening to Fr’s Boston accent. I also ‘Pahk my cah in Hahvid Yahd!”
Thanks for beginning this retreat, Gab.

You’re very welcome. I’m not laying odds, though, on which one of us would get kicked out first from a silent retreat. :) Well, they’d probably remove us en masse.

Nooo.. Probably true for most of us, but in person (and with or without an order for silence), I am quiet as a hermit crab. Really, folks are uncomfortable with it, but only those who don’t speak with their eyes and breath. I’d pay about $80,000 for a silent retreat right about now. I ‘preciate you saving me $80,000.
    ;-)
