Synchronicity

Published by admin at 11:28 am under Uncategorized

Some thoughts on journaling in the previous post’s combox, as well as a recent reflection over at ccheryl’s , brought to mind the enormous potential of creativity in our lives.

If you have not already done so, I would highly recommend reading a book by Julia Cameron, entitled, “The Artist’s Way. A Spiritual Path to Higher Creativity.” It is a powerful and insightful work on how to recover and release the hidden artist within. While not “Catholic” in any denominational sense of the word, the author guides us through a program which will help us discover, or reawaken, our sense of the connectedness between art and spirituality. Here are two passages from Julia Cameron’s book:

“The heart of creativity is an experience of the mystical union; the heart of the mystical union is an experience of creativity. Those who speak in spiritual terms routinely refer to God as the creator but seldom see creator as the literal term for artist. I am suggesting you take the term creator quite literally. You are seeking to forge a creative alliance, artist-to-artist with the Great Creator. Accepting this concept can greatly expand your creative possibilities.” (pg. 2)

“Once you accept that it is natural to create, you can begin to accept a second idea – that the creator will hand you whatever you need for the project. The minute you are willing to accept the help of this collaborator, you will see useful bits of help everywhere in your life. Be alert: there is a second voice, a higher harmonic, adding to and augmenting your inner creative voice. This voice frequently shows itself in synchronicity.” (pg. 119)

Thank you so much for this very inspiring-sounding suggestion, Gabrielle.I just reserved it at my library. It must be a real good book…just about all of the copies in the library network were out! Looks Good.

Hope you enjoy it, ccheryl. People probably renew it, because it’s a course-like endeavour, but well worth it!

    It looks temptingly Good.

    “Synchronicity”? How so?

Yikes! I believe there is synchronicity at work here. I have this book and a couple of years ago I was begining to practice some of the exercises such as writing 3 pages a day. Of course, I was not very disciplined and became a lapsed “artist.” Maybe it’s time to reconnect with the Great Creator.

    Terry, me too.

Honora, Julia Cameron says that as we discover, or recover, our creativity, synchronicity is triggered; she says, “we change and the universe furthers and expands that change.”She tells us that it was C.G.Jung who named this principle “synchronicity”, and that it can be defined as, “a fortuitous intermeshing of events.” Cameron writes, “once you begin your creative recovery you may be startled to find it cropping up everywhere.”

I’ll give you a little more from Page 119 to show you how she explains it:”You will hear the dialogue you need, find the right song for the sequence, see the exact paint color you almost had in mind, and so forth. You will have the experience of finding things – books, seminars, tossed-out stuff – that happen to fit with what you are doing.Learn to accept the possibility that the universe is helping you with what you are doing. Become willing to see the hand of God and accept it as a friend’s offer to help with what you are doing. Because many of us unconsciously harbor the fearful belief that God would find our creations decadent or frivolous or worse, we tend to discount this creator-to-creator help. Try to remember that God is the Great Artist. Artists like other artists.Expect the universe to support your dream. It will.”

I don’t know why, but some of the hardest things I’ve had to wait for are additional posts about contemplation.

Oh, and I love to post them, too. But we were hit by a flu bug, plus youngest having four teeth removed in preparation for braces; it’s been a “pass me the Tylenol” kind of week around here…
    Gabrielle | 09.23.06 – 12:43 pm |

Holy mackerel :-| !! I’ll be more patient. I’ll try. I’ll fail. I’ll have to go get Interior Castle and Fire Within. You folks are driving me crazy, in the best possible way. I’ll pray for your Tylenol-lovin’ selves all along the way.
